What’s Your Why?

Hi All!

So sorry I’ve been away for so long. I’ve missed you all terribly.

I am going through some big changes! I’ve become a life coach and am currently working on transitioning this site to one where that practice and my writing can evolve harmoniously. I can’t tell you how much I’ve appreciated having you along for the journey up to this point. I hope you will join me on the new site as well once I get my shit together!

You can also find me on Instagram where I am working hard to curate snapshots and stories that connect to people in the same way I tried to here. It’s a shorter form but my honesty, heart, and wit are all still there. Please check it out.

Since I know a lot of you are not on Instagram, I wanted to share a bit of what I’m doing there with you here. Perhaps some of you will appreciate and relate to the quick and to the point ideas–I won’t be blathering on like I usually do ;).

I hope everyone is doing well out there. It actually hurts me that I don’t have more time to stay in touch and read all of the blogs that I used to. I just want you all to know that I still very much care about what is going on in your lives–and I’m always rooting for all of you. Love my blogging community <3.

 

 

 

What’s your WHY?

In one of the last classes of my life coaching course our teacher asked us, “What is your why?” She then very quickly inserted, “I’m not looking for the generic ‘I want to help people’ line’…go deeper than that.” She then asked us to imagine that we had a billboard in Time Square—one that thousands of people would see as they walked by every day. What would we want it to say?

Full disclosure: I cried like a baby during this exercise. It’s such an easy thing to offer that generic answer, “I want to help people.” It’s not that it’s not true—but it’s so surface. Digging deep and trying to articulate what I want my effect on the world to be—that’s when shit got real.

I’d need three billboards (or a REALLY big one). True to form I’ve never had just one thing to say. These are 3 things that I believe to my core because they are based on my life experience. They are key to how I live and I now feel this unbelievable compulsion to share them with others.

Today I’ll share #1: “The best of what life has to offer is on the other side of your comfort zone.”

Not that original, i know. But I believe it so hard. All the best things in my life: love, sobriety, good health and fitness, a relationship with a power I believe to be greater than myself—have come from and are continuously nurtured by reaching beyond the place that feels easy and safe. When we start to get comfortable with being uncomfortable—that’s where the magic happens.

I’d love to help ease other people into this place of discomfort. Maybe even hold their hand for a bit to assure them it’s going to be okay if they stay a while. Perhaps you are one of these people?
